JOTA/JOTI
Communications Weekend
The 1st Stotfold Scout Group are holding a Group
communications weekend this October. A weekend offering all members of
the 1st Stotfold Scout Group the opportunity to communicate with Scouts
from all over the world, using a variety of technologies. The weekend
coincides with world event called JOTI (Jamboree on the internet) and
JOTA (Jamboree on the air) where Scouts from all over the world can talk
and communicate together.
We are organising set times on both 18th & 19th October where each
of the Beaver colonies and Cub packs can visit and will provide
activities for 1 hour where they will be able to use all of the
facilities as well as craft activities on the theme of communication and
global challenge. All of the activities will count towards their badge
work.
Both Saturday & Sunday
10am to 11am Cherokee Cub Pack
11:30am to 12:30pm Comanche Cub Pack
1pm to 2pm Chickasaw Beaver Colony
2:30pm to 3:30pm Cheyenne Beaver Colony
4:00pm to
9:30pm Ridgway Scout Troop & Mount Longdon Explorer Unit.
Other Activities
Scouts will be camping at the Scout hut over the weekend. Times will be
allocated to Beaver and Cub sections to visit and take part in the
activities.
We will
connect all of the Scout Hut network to the internet for IRC chat and
email. The event will end on the Sunday evening with a live broadcast on
our internet radio station.
Responsibilities will be given to Scouts over the weekend to supervise
and managed all of the communications.
Radio Hike
Produce a JOTA newspaper outlining the people we have spoken to.
Make a radio programme,
Evening activity for the Scouts will be the Radio Hike as well as IRC
chat.
Build simple electronics kits. (Crystal radios)
Keep a large world map of people that we have contacted and area weather
details.
Scouts fill out cards with details of people they have spoken to and add
it to the world map.
